Elmo Motion Control’s newest Gold Twitter servo drive offers the highest power yet, while remaining compact enough to fit inside a motor.

A servo drive small enough to be placed onto a moving load – such as a robot, automated guided vehicles (AGV) or aerial drone – has been launched by Elmo Motion Control.

Weighing just 20g and with a volume of less than 13cm3, the Gold Twitter Nano 80 A/ 80 V drive is the world’s smallest drive, and yet offers 5,000W of continuous power.

The compact size of the  Gold Twitter Nano 80A/80V means it  can be placed on the moving load, on the motor, or even inside the motor. This improves performance, saves space and reduces the need for cables.

The new drive is, therefore, suitable for motion control applications with a high power demand in a restricted space. Applications include automated production machinery, robots, AGVs, aerial drones, medical bionics and any application that requires high performance servo operation.

The drive is certified to IEC 61800-5-2, SIL-3. The Gold Twitter Nano also offers advanced networking capabilities based on EtherCAT and CANOpen.

“Designing and manufacturing a powerful drive such as the Gold Twitter Nano means using highly innovative technologies to meet the challenges involved,” says Gary Busby, UK managing director of Elmo Motion Control.

The Gold Twitter range of servo drives uses Elmo’s Fast and Soft Power Switching Technology (FASST), giving over 99 percent efficiency and negligible electro-magnetic interference (EMI).

“Our innovative technology has allowed us to achieve the most advanced servo performance, offering very efficient power conversion combined with smart thermal control,” says Busby. “We also meet strict EMI standards, design in a high degree of ruggedness to withstand tough environmental conditions, and comply with very high safety standards, all with the highest levels of quality and reliability.

“Such a compact servo drive is based on Elmo’s philosophy of offering leaner machinery that performs with the highest speed and accuracy. The Gold Twitter Nano 80 A/80 V demonstrates Elmo’s approach of “cutting costs by technology,” and supports advanced motion systems both today and tomorrow.”
