Renold Gears has produced a 3D video animation that quickly summarises and illustrates, in just over two minutes, the innovations, benefits and design features of its new range of compact escalator drives.

The new WH series drives are bristling with new design features and the video quickly brings engineers up to speed with everything they need to know about the new range with a 3D animation and voice over.

The video can be seen at renold.com by selecting Products, then Gears, then WH Series, or on YouTube by searching for, ‘Renold WH Series’.

Renold Gears is the leading supplier of heavy-duty escalator drive packages and has been renowned for the safety, quality and reliability of its solutions for over 50 years.

If you’re travelling on the London Underground, the Washington Metro or the New York Subway it’s more than likely that the escalators you use are driven by a drive package designed and manufactured by Renold Gears.

The new compact WH series escalator drives are approximately half the size and weight of a traditional unit from the company’s TU range. There are five footprint options to provide easy interchangeability with those of other manufacturers and the unique case design ensures ease of installation for both the replacement of existing drives or in new applications without the need for re-engineering or redesign.

The new escalator drives have a compact design available as motor ready or fitted with a vertical motor, brake and flywheel package for in-truss installation. As a worm/helical combination unit the WH Series Compact Transit Escalator Drives are designed for high efficiency and low noise with the unique Renold Holroyd worm gear form on the high speed input stage and coupled with a helical gear on the second stage.

They have also been designed as minimal maintenance units with a range of features to make maintenance as quick and easy as possible when required. They feature Renold’s Low Oil Level Technology that reduces operating temperature and extends operating life. Additionally this feature, combined with the optional use of non-contact labyrinth seals, ensures that the new units are leak free.

The new drives meet LUL, APTA and NYCTA specifications and provide a wider range of options for customers by extending Renold’s escalator drive solutions into the mid-range of escalator drive requirements.
