Following the approval of the competition authorities, the Weidmüller Group was able to complete the acquisition of Bosch Rexroth Monitoring Systems GmbH from Bosch Rexroth AG on 1 November 2016.

Thanks to this acquisition, Weidmüller has strengthened its activities in the wind power segment and expanded its solution portfolio for condition- monitoring technologies. The new subsidiary at the new and old location in Dresden employs 25 people and will operate under the name of “Weidmüller Monitoring Systems” with immediate effect.

“Weidmüller Monitoring Systems breathes new life into our existing solution portfolio for the wind energy sector,” said Dr. Peter Köhler, Chief Executive of the Weidmüller Group, upon the closing of the acquisition. “Thanks to our new subsidiary and its excellence in the area of rotor blade-based damage detection for wind turbines, our portfolio for wind turbine condition monitoring has become considerably more appealing both in Germany and worldwide. We are delighted to now be able to work together with our new employees in designing the wind energy systems of the future with customised automation solutions.”

As part of this acquisition, the Weidmüller Group has purchased the former location of Bosch Rexroth Monitoring Systems in Dresden, in which the condition-monitoring systems for wind power installations are developed, manufactured and distributed. An opening event was held in Dresden on 1 November, with Member of the Executive Board Elke Eckstein in attendance, to celebrate the official acquisition of the company and its first day under the umbrella of the Weidmüller Group.

In taking over what will in future be known on the market as “Weidmüller Monitoring Systems GmbH” (WMS), the Weidmüller Group would like to step up its operations in the wind segment. These systems monitor the condition of rotor blades in particular and provide the possibility of detecting ice build-up on the same, to name but one example. The Bosch Rexroth Monitoring Systems GmbH solutions that are available on the market are particularly well-known under the brand name of BLADEcontrol®.

The two companies have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. The company is growing rapidly and already expects to post significantly higher revenue this year than was generated last year.
