JAI’s Apex Series includes a range of high-performance 5.1-megapixel, 3-CMOS prism-based area scan cameras designed for demanding colour inspection tasks. Models such as AP-5100T-CXPA, AP-5100T-MCL, and AP-5100T-5GE provide flexible interface options while delivering consistent imaging performance across a variety of machine vision applications.

Built around three Sony Pregius IMX548 backside-illuminated sensors, each camera delivers 3 × 5.1 megapixels with frame rates of up to 75 fps (CoaXPress), 55 fps (Mini Camera Link), and 32 fps (5GigE Vision). This combination of resolution and speed supports inspection environments where both fine detail and high throughput are essential.

At the core of these cameras is JAI’s prism-based imaging technology. A precisely engineered prism block splits incoming light into red, green, and blue wavelengths using hard dichroic filters. Each channel is captured by a dedicated CMOS sensor with perfect pixel alignment, eliminating interpolation artifacts and colour crosstalk typically found in Bayer-based systems. This results in highly accurate colour reproduction, improved spatial detail, and strong signal integrity—key advantages for detecting subtle defects and variations.

The cameras include a comprehensive set of Apex features such as pixel binning, single and multi-ROI, automatic level control, sequencer functionality, in-camera colour space conversion, channel-independent exposure, and shading correction. Advanced capabilities like Xscale, a floating-point sub-pixel scaling function, allow users to fine-tune pixel size, sensitivity, and resolution beyond conventional binning limits.

In addition, in-camera chromatic aberration correction enables precise per-channel magnification adjustments, ensuring consistent alignment across all colour channels. This is particularly valuable in applications requiring high measurement accuracy or consistent edge sharpness.

With four opto-isolated inputs and four outputs, the cameras support complex triggering configurations, including multi-camera synchronization, coordinated illumination control, and multi-step acquisition sequences.

Designed for industrial environments, the cameras feature robust housings with 50G shock and 3G vibration tolerance and operate reliably within a temperature range of –5°C to +45°C.

These cameras are well suited for applications such as electronics inspection, display manufacturing, food quality assessment, pharmaceutical packaging, and print verification—where precise colour differentiation and repeatable imaging performance are critical.
