A new video from STEMMER IMAGING highlights the outstanding colour imaging quality delivered by the KD Series of Contact Image Sensors (CIS) from Mitsubishi Electric Europe across a wide range of applications. STEMMER IMAGING is Mitsubishi Electric Europe’s strategic partner for the distribution of these CIS throughout Europe.
This new video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z642Q9lBFiY, shows the CIS producing high quality line scan images at high scan rates on a wide range of flat samples. These include print applications such as paper, fabric, banknotes and holograms, surface inspection for defects in wood and glass and automated optical inspection of printed circuit boards.
With three different lengths, offering scan widths of 309, 617 and 926 mm the CIS feature a proprietary tri-line CMOS colour sensor and integrated white LED illumination, providing a colour resolution of 600 dpi. They generate images with virtually no distortion since the long sensor line maps the object on a one-to-one scale.
The video shows how the two sets of integral white LED lighting can be varied in intensity and controlled independently, increasing the range of applications. The lighting is homogenous, with no shading along the length of the sensor, meaning defects can be detected even at the edge of the scan. Image data output is provided via standard industrial CameraLink interfaces. Built-in timing control includes encoder inputs and light control and is configured by RS232 via CameraLink.
With a working distance of 12 mm, the sensors provide a compact and easy-to-use optical colour inspection solution for applications in all areas where flat or nearly flat objects and materials need to be tested quickly at high resolution and with excellent colour quality.
