The first presentation is titled “SensL Silicon Photomultipliers – advances in low light detection”. Silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) are the solid-state alternative to conventional vacuum tube photomultipliers. Interest in SiPMs has grown considerably as the technology has moved from one-off large scale high energy physics experiments to commercial products.

SensL Technologies supply SiPMs into a wide range of medical imaging, radiation detection, biomedical and spectroscopic applications.

The presentation will provide an introduction to SiPM technology including principles of operation and terminology before addressing the latest developments in areas such as Photon Detection Efficiency and the revolutionary patent-pending “fast mode” technology.

SensL’s new 1mm, 3mm and 6mm surface mount packages are presented. These can be used individually or built into customer’s own nxn array designs. SensL’s standard SMT array configurations are discussed.

A key part of the decision-making process when adopting a new technology is the surety of supply so the presentation will conclude with a brief discussion of SensL supply-chain of Tier 1 8” CMOS wafer-fabrication and packaging facilities.

In addition to the SensL SiPM technology APT also supplies silicon photodiodes and hybrid photodiode-preamplifier receivers.

The second tutorial “NIR Single Photon Counting Solutions” is presented by Jerome Prieur, President of AUREA Technology. Jerome will discuss AUREA’s near infrared single photon counting and high brightness photon-pair systems.

The presentation will introduce AUREA’s proprietary Geiger-Mode InGaAs APD technology and its implementation in a range of single- and matched detector dual-channel photon counting systems optimised for telecom wavelengths or for “bio” applications at 900-1350nm.

AUREA’s modular product platform enables multiple configurations – allowing systems to be optimised for particular applications such as the LynXea “all-in-one” NIR Time Correlated Single Photon Counting TCSPC Module.

A working system comprising high brightness photon pairs source and single photon counting module will be displayed on our stand (A14).

APT also supply silicon photon counting modules from SensL Technologies.

In addition to the SiPM and photon counting technologies covered in the tutorials APT will be presenting our range of Light Emitting Diodes from deep UV at 240nm through visible to near-infrared – including high power LED arrays are also offered. We also supply a wide range of singlemode and multimode laser diodes from 405nm to 1850nm.

The Photonex Photonics Tutorials take place on Wednesday 16th October in session room IP2. The SensL presentation takes place at 12:00, the AUREA tutorial is at 14:35.

Please visit APT on Stand A13 to discuss your laser diode, LED and detection requirements.
