Mobile networks are evolving and the 3G Frequency is to be phased out, this old technology takes up valuable wireless spectrum, which will be utilised for other technologies.
The timing of 3G shutdown differs between countries and providers. Some have already transitioned to 5G networks, while others are still in the process of upgrading from 3G to 4G. The rate of adoption of these newer technologies affects the demand for 3G services, which in turn affects the timing of the 3G shutdown.
If you are exporting machines across borders, you need to consider the impact of 3G shutdown on a global scale. To find out more about the impact of the 3G shutdown on remote connectivity, the status across countries, and what you need to do to prepare, checkout a recent blog posted by one of our sales partners Secomea – global experts in remote access solutions.

For UK customers still using a 3G Secomea SiteManager or any other 3G device to remotely access your industrial equipment, you risk not being able to connect. The Secomea 3G device will switchover to 2G, but as these networks are also being shut down, you could completely lose your remote connectivity. For this reason, it is vital that you replace your device with one that supports 4G service. Some of the major network providers in the UK are shutting down their 3G services as early as 2024.
