Ahead of its formal opening later this year, the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) held a week of handover celebrations with the bodies that have funded it since the need for a UK centre of excellence for high value manufacturing was first identified four years ago.  Staff and industry and academic partners at the MTC were proud to welcome HRH The Duke of York for a tour of the new facility.

The MTC is the result of a £40.55 million investment by Advantage West Midlands and the East Midlands Development Agency and is housed in a landmark building located at Ansty Park near Coventry. There are four initial research partners: University of Birmingham, The University of Nottingham, Loughborough University and TWI Limited. There are three founding industry members: Rolls Royce, Airbus UK and Aero Engine Controls.

The MTC supports manufacturing businesses and was set up in response to the UK Government’s Manufacturing Strategy. This envisions the UK as leading the world in capturing higher value components of the global value chain, whilst consolidating areas of existing comparative advantage within high technology manufacturing.
