Following the recent publication of the Guide to Lighting Best Practice by BRC Global Standards, GlassGuard has produced a safer lighting awareness pack for food manufacturers.
Aimed at technical and commercial managers at food manufacturing companies and professionals such as lighting designers, architects and specifiers, the awareness packs will contain electronic copies of the BRC Guide to Lighting Best Practice along with GlassGuard’s own CPD training module: An Introduction to Fragment Retention Lamps.
The Guide to Lighting Best Practice for the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety has been published by BRC Global Standards in partnership with the Society of Light and Lighting. It aims to provide advice to food manufacturing and packaging sites to develop robust systems and procedures which adequately meet the lighting requirements of the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety.
The training module introduces fragment retention lamps and the EN 61549 European Standard, providing an application guideline to businesses and organisations on where to use fragment retention lamps; and also highlights the dangers and cost implications of using non-compliant products.
The awareness pack will also contain two sample GlassGuard BlackBand 8w T5 fluorescent tubes, one of which is broken in order to visibly demonstrate the effectiveness of a fragment retention coating on a glass fluorescent tube.

The use of fragment retention lamps in areas such as food production and packaging is crucial, as the risk of glass contamination and injury from accidental lamp breakage is a very real one. The awareness packs are multilingual and are available in English, German, French, Spanish and Italian.
