Over 600 young people enjoyed a glimpse into the future of technology at the first-ever Makers Meet, a free tech festival in Birmingham organised by the manufacturers’ organisation, Make UK.

The event, at the Custard Factory, Digbeth, took place during Birmingham Tech Week and attracted aspiring engineers, apprentices and students who were able to hear from industry experts and see the latest technologies in action across four areas – the Tech Zone, Demonstration Zone, The Makers Meetup and the Great Ideas Garden.

Andrea Bull, head of next generation marketing at Make UK, said: “Makers Meet aims to inspire the next generation of talent and show them that the future of engineering and manufacturing is an exciting one which they can be part of. We are already looking to build on the success of this first festival, with plans for more than one event in 2020.”

The Make UK Technology Hub, in Aston, is a development and training centre for apprentices and professionals. Applications are being taken for apprenticeship courses beginning in January 2020. For more information, go to www.makeuk.org/future-makers/contact-us
