Motion Control Products, the official distributor of Schneider Electric Motion USA, has announced that networking over EthernetTCP/IP via industrial M12 circular connectors is now available in Lexium MDrive integrated motor systems on the NEMA motor sizes 23 and 34.
M12 Lexium MDrive products integrate stepper motor, controller, I/O and drive electronics with closed loop performance in a compact package ideal for many motion applications. High torque step motors are integrated with drives from 12 up to 70 VDC, controller, I/O, and internal encoder. In certain applications, LMD closed loop performance can replace servomotors, lowering cost and reducing complexity. MDrive products with EtherNet/IP also include the protocol stacks for Profinet IO, Modbus/TCP and MCode/TCP for use as a programmable controller over Ethernet.
EtherNet/IP is the most widely used industrial Ethernet solution for factory automation. Developed by Rockwell Automation, and managed by the Open DeviceNet Vendors Association (ODVA), EtherNet/IP provides a complete set of services and messages for control, synchronisation, safety, motion and data exchange.
Schneider’s Lexium MDrive Ethernet products support EtherNet/IP as an adapter class device capable of implicit and explicit messaging with remote I/O on-board these integrated motion products. Available as open or closed loop with an internal magnetic encoder. Closed loop models feature hMTechnology.
EtherNet/IP, ModbusTCP and Profinet are all software selectable from one product, delivering system flexibility to a wide range of automation machine builders. “Globally, Ethernet is the most widely used protocol for factory automation. ODVA standards benefit machine builders by making it easy to implement products from various vendors into one system,” states Steve McKay, MD of Motion Control Products. “Lexium MDrive products are also easy to implement into new or existing systems, reducing parts count and machine complexity. Setup is simplified with robust M12 circular connectors, and users select in software from EtherNet/IP, ModbusTCP or Profinet.”
