Industrial cameras as a game changer in automation? IDS will show how it works in its free online event “InsightImaging”
on 21 November. Companies are turning to automation to overcome the challenges posed by a shortage of skilled
workers, tight margins and ever shorter time-to-market. For this purpose, industrial cameras have established
themselves as true game changers. Camera manufacturer IDS will provide information about the latest image
processing developments in the areas of 2D, 3D and AI Vision.
Nowadays, industrial cameras open up completely new perspectives in manufacturing processes. It is not without reason
that they are considered the “eyes of robots and machines”. A decisive advantage is the ability to perform several tasks,
as image processing enable a far more flexible evaluation of different (optical) features than other highly specialised
sensors. This has brought rapid development to the industrial camera sector in recent years. “Cameras make many
processes more efficient. However, companies need to know their options so that they can benefit accordingly,” explains
Patrick Schick, Product Marketing Manager at IDS Imaging Development Systems.
Industrial cameras in process automation
No other component interprets and generates as much different data as image processing. Within a production line, it
allows product characteristics (e.g. length, numbers), states (“presence/absence”) or quality to be checked and the data
obtained to be processed. Patrick Schick continues: “Cameras not only help to determine whether the inspected part
meets the desired properties or is good or bad, but also trigger subsequent processes, such as automatic sorting,
depending on the result.” A particular advantage for SMEs: Even small series can be automated cost-efficiently or series
can be scaled up easily. This makes production more flexible and profitable, even in smaller quantities.
How to use image processing efficiently
IDS will explain what businesses need to know in order to make best use of image processing on 21 November as part
of its practice-oriented online event “InsightImaging”. The supporting programme includes helpful “how to” focusing on
frequently asked questions, keynotes and quite a few examples for the practical use of cameras. “During the event, we
will be presenting some of our new products, such as the intelligent industrial camera IDS NXT malibu, which has a
special chip that makes live streaming via RTSP and AI-based evaluations in the live image possible,” explains Patrick
Schick. “We are also presenting our new Ensenso C, which is the first stereo vision camera in the Ensenso product line
to deliver both 3D point clouds and 2D colour images,” Schick continues. The Fraunhofer spin-off DENKweit will also be
taking part and will show what AI-based mage analysis is capable of and provide insights into the DENK VISION AI Hub.
