Both indoor surveillance and outdoor surveillance are an airports major challenge due to low-light limitations, which can negatively impact the recognition of airplanes and people. Secondly, extending power to IP cameras can be costly, both in terms of installation and maintenance. Also, due to multiple gates at an airport, it can be difficult to properly monitor all areas, the large distances in an airport can present difficulties in transmitting IP camera data to the control centre.
To address these challenges, the customer was looking for network solutions and IP cameras. PoE technology offers a solution to meet the customer’s requirements. With the standardization of PoE, the network and IP cameras can be designed to ensure compatibility.
Solution overview
With this IP surveillance application, a good option is to use PoE (Power over Ethernet) IEEE802.3af/at to latest IEEE802.3bt, which can power up to 90W. Beijer Electronics offers the JetNet 5212GP which provides 4 fibre ports to achieve long distance transmission, each ethernet port can max supports 90W for PD (powered device), and total budget up to 480W, including robust enclosure and -40~75°C wide operating temperature range.

Suitable for harsh environment
All products from Beijer Electronics are designed in industrial grade and support -40~75°C wide operating temperature. Moreover, some models support IEEE802.3bt PoE such as JetNet 5212GP, JetNet 5216GP and JetNet 5210GP.
This provides the ability to link and supply power to PoE-based outdoor infrared cameras, up to 90W of power per PoE port, and support massive video and data transmissions to the central room through the fibre ports.
