Continuous level measurement with analogue output and IO-Link

One of the most important features of the latest version of ifm electronic’s LR guided- wave radar sensor, the LR9020, is the lack of any buttons or displays.  Not having any buttons means that unauthorised access to the settings is completely ruled out. But what this new level sensor does have, is an IO-Link interface.

The IP rating is also enhanced by not having openings for an operator interface in the housing, allowing the device to attain IP69K.

IO-Link is a two-way communication at sensor level, permitting adjustment even if the sensor is installed in an inaccessible location.  Not only can the settings be remotely selected and recorded, but also the true level information can be transmitted to the control system without the conversion losses associated with traditional 4 to 20mA. The normal 4 to 20mA (or 0 to 10V) output is still available, along with a standard PNP switched output.

The LR9020 uses the same level probes as the standard LR series, in numerous lengths up to 160cm, which the user can cut to size, to detect a variety of water-based or oil-based liquid media.
