The Application

When processing food or medical products, a continuous cold chain is essential for guaranteeing the quality of the end product. Objects must be reliably detected under all circumstances to ensure the smooth transport of goods. Ambient temperatures far below freezing place especially high demands on the equipment used in these conditions.

The Goal

Detecting goods in very cold areas requires extreme durabilityand insensitivity to fog, frost, and temperatures as low as –40 °C. The detection of goods on conveyors or pallets transported by mobile transport vehicles must be efficient and reliable at all times.

The Solution

UC*-L2M-*-T series ultrasonic sensors are ideal for object detection in these areas. They were specially designed for this purpose and are available in three different ranges (500 mm, 2000 mm, and 4000 mm) with various output options. They are mounted using a rugged metal screw base and connected with a 2 m, heavy-duty fixed cable with an increased core cross section. With a rotatable sensor head and extensive configuration options, such as an adjustable sound beam, the sensor can be adapted to the constraints of the application at any time. In addition, the low-temperature sensors can be synchronized automatically, which prevents incorrect measurements when using multiple sensors and guarantees reliable detection.
