mayr1ROBA®-guidestop

New from Mayr is the ROBA®-guidestop. A highly rigid, backlash-free profiled rail brake designed to deliver maximum safety and process improvement. This innovative brake concept is offered in eight construction sizes, covering nominal holding forces from 5 to 34kN.

Vertical loads present a substantial potential hazard in machine tools and other mechanised systems. If an unintended fall or crash occurs, the load must be brought to a standstill as quickly as possible. With the ROBA®-guidestop, Mayr offer a reliable braking solution for profiled guideways, which arrests movements safely and quickly and clamps the axis rigidly and backlash-free during operation.

mayr2Safety through direct clamping

The innovative brake concept clamps with a high degree of rigidity directly on the linear guide. The ROBA®-guidestop brakes are directly mounted onto the load that is to be braked or held. This is advantageous in gravity-loaded axes where the risk of injury to people must be minimised, as by braking directly on the rail, the drive elements between the motor and the moving mass such as spindles, spindle nuts, shaft couplings or gearboxes, have no influence on the safety of the system.

The ROBA®-guidestop safety brakes work according to the fail-safe principle; this means that they are closed (brake on) in a de-energised condition. Despite the very high holding forces, a relatively low nominal pressure of just 70bar is sufficient for hydraulic release. The brake mechanism is designed for long stroke paths and compensates for manufacturing tolerances on profiled rails without losing its braking force. The ROBA®-guidestop safety brakes are designed with two brake circuits working independently of each other. This allows for either double the holding force or a redundant brake design.

mayr3More accuracy and improved machining performance

The backlash-free clamping of the ROBA®-guidestop enhances the rigidity of machine tool axes. This increases the process accuracy and improves the machining performance particularly during heavy machining operations. Vibrations in the machining process are reduced, which has a positive influence on the surface quality of the part.
