Schaeffler UK has achieved its target of two years (more than 850,000 working hours) of accident-free production at its automotive engine component plant in Llanelli, South Wales.

Schaeffler UK’s manufacturing plant produces precision engine components including general bearings and mechanical tappets for the automotive industry. The plant, which was established in 1957, employs 250 people including an annual intake of four apprentices.

Dr Dave Bate, plant manager at Schaeffler UK commented: “Schaeffler has a culture of shop floor empowerment and encouragement of its employees to take a more active role in its day-to-day improvement activities. Reaching our target of two years free of accidents is an outstanding achievement by everyone at Llanelli and demonstrates their total commitment in continuing to take safety seriously and making it our number one priority. We will continue to improve and hope to achieve our next target of one million accident-free working hours at the plant. If we remain accident-free until March 2015, we should achieve this new milestone, which would be a remarkable achievement,” he added.
