Leading industrialist Allan Cook CBE, is to stand down from his role as Semta Chairman at the end of March, it has been announced.

Allan has been at the helm of the Semta Group for more than six years and has overseen the transition from a Sector Skills Council to an employer-led organisation recognised by government and industry as the pre-eminent experts in apprenticeships, technical and vocational education in the engineering and advanced manufacturing sector.

Allan Cook CBE said: “The skills landscape in our sector has changed beyond all recognition and during my time as Chairman of Semta I have been very fortunate to have had the benefit of the support and collaboration of an outstanding Semta board and of course the Semta organisation under the strong leadership of Ann Watson.

“It has been an honour and a real pleasure to play a part in this important transition and I know that I leave in the knowledge that it is thriving and will continue its vital work – helping to provide the engineering skills this nation needs.”
