A FIFTEEN minute visit to Sick UK’s stand (D1328) at the Drives and Controls Show could be a safe bet for engineers wanting an insight into new Functional Safety regulations.
SICK is holding regular 15-minute ‘walk-throughs’ of the new machinery safety standards BS EN13849-1 & 2 for Safety Related Control Systems and the SISTEMA software utility. Booking is advisable, although not essential, and those who pre-register for sessions at 11am, 1pm and 3pm will be automatically entered into a daily iPod Touch draw.
Sick will unveil its revolutionary Hiperface® DSL motor feedback interface technology for encoders at the show, promising machine builders an opportunity to achieve major cost and commissioning savings. The Hiperface DSL protocol is designed to carry comprehensive servo data from the motor to the drive electronics with reduced cabling requirements. It has also been developed with safe drive systems in mind and incorporates the redundancy and error checking required to achieve SIL2 (PLd) and SIL3 (PLe).
Sick is also launching its first ethernet-based fieldbus encoders for the AFS60 and AFM60 family of freely programmable encoders, including Ethernet IP, EtherCAT and ProfiNET compatibility. The Ethernet IP encoders’ unique Device Level Ring (DLR) technology for continuous monitoring and diagnostics provides a valuable opportunity to improve machine reliability and plant availability. The AFM60 multi-turn encoder also offers an innovative round loop capability for applications with continuous rotation.
Also revealed for the first time will be the DL100 Hi distance laser sensor for fast and reliable dynamic positioning. Benefiting from 20 years of Sick’s laser technology know-how, the DL100 Hi offers improved accuracy and faster response times in a robust design. Its new modular platform capability offers the opportunity to integrate with new interfaces such as ethernet fieldbus.
Sick’s Machinery Safety expert team will be on hand to advise visitors on all aspects of machinery safety and regulations. They will also demonstrate important new networking, speed monitoring and software tools for Sick’s flagship Flexi Soft Modular Safety Controller. The latest additions to Sick’s comprehensive range of safety laser scanners offering an enhanced functional interface with the Flexi Soft controller will also be on show.
