New safety modules for ifm AS-i Safety At Work

Announced recently by the leading AS-Interface supplier ifm electronic Ltd, are two new easy-to-use modules for the Safety at Work wiring system.

These two new safety modules, AC505S and AC506S are built with ease of installation in mind. The new ClassicLine housing, available only from ifm electronic, can be connected without needing any tools. Once the base has been fitted, the flat yellow AS-i cable slots into the preformed groove in the desired orientation (any one of three directions), the top part placed in position and then the unique quick-close lock secures the module. The four screws needed for earlier models are no longer needed. This novel design guarantees fast, easy yet secure mounting maintaining IP67.

The two new safety modules feature safe inputs and non-safe outputs. Both are certified to EN 62061 / SIL3 and EN ISO 13849-1 / PL e for the utmost in safety.

These safety modules are designed to take safe inputs, each capable of handling signals from mechanical devices, for example an E-stop or electronic OSSD units such as inductive safety sensors or light guards, while the outputs are standard non-safe signals (safe outputs are generated on Safety At Work by the Safety Monitor).  AC505S has two outputs and two LED outputs, the AC506S has two dual inputs, two LED outputs and two transistor outputs.

ifm is committed to working closely with its customers to develop products which precisely match their needs, and the company provides expert, readily accessible technical support to help users maximise the benefits they gain from ifm products.
