The newest DENSO Controller RC8, available from AA Robotics, is 60 per cent smaller than the previous model.

Unveiled at this year’s Automatica, RC8 is the world’s smallest system in the 3-kW-class with a height of 94mm, and a base of 456 x 298mm. It is 60 percent smaller than previous models, and is comparable to the size of an A3 sheet of paper.

“The compact size of the RC8 is an important step in the downsizing of production equipment providing significant cost reductions, as well meeting the demands of worldwide safety standards,” said Neil Billingham of AA Robotics.

The PC architecture allows interfacing with equipment such as smart cameras where the images can be shown on the RC8 pendant. Standard PC cards for the controller are future proofed with the availability of a complete range of communication protocols.

Based on VB script, the programming language is flexible and because of similarities with previous models, the learning curve for customers will be small. Maintenance time is also significantly reduced with electronic fuses and diagnostics, showing at a glance where any faults may lie.

RC8 can communicate with more than 100 different industrial machines via the ORiN* network system, making it ideal for programming and controlling robots in a variety of industries. Its compliance to safety standards of ISO and UL and CE, makes the RC8 controller globally approved and 10,000 units are forecast to be sold this year.

RC8 is compatible with the complete range of DENSO robots from AA Robotics and, accompanied by the PC8 (an industrial PC), easily allows for collaborative robots and synchronised multi robot installations.
