Product Testers Wanted

Panasonic offers the opportunity to test laser measurement sensors with IO-Link free of charge.

Compared to the standard version of the HG-C measurement sensor which outputs the distance as an analogue voltage or analogue current value the new HG-C series is able to transmit the measurement values via the  IO-Link network. With IO-Link it is possible to obtain measurement values and also configure the sensors remotely.

To put the idea behind Industry 4.0 into practice IO-Link also offers a self-diagnosis function. This function can detect the sensors light intensity and short circuits and inform the host device about its status.

When a sensor is replaced, IO-Link ensures that the settings of the new sensor correspond to the settings necessary for the application.

Become a Product Tester for Panasonic’s measurement sensors

Users of measurement sensors now have the possibility to test Panasonic’s HG-C series free of charge. The aim is to test and evaluate the sensor which has been designed for industrial use to measure distance and displacement. Typical applications are automated product lines where products need to be differentiated, identified, checked, measured or judged. Important criteria for the test are applications requiring  high-speed object detection and high repeatability under difficult conditions.

Why become a Product Tester?

Product Testers will learn how triangulation sensing in the field of optical sensors works and you will receive technical support from product specialists on how to solve your application . The aim is that the sensor will undergo extensive tests in real world applications under industrial conditions. After the evaluation the sensor remains in the possession of the tester for free.

Industry 4.0: stay connected with your sensors thanks to IO-Link

To put the idea behind Industry 4.0 into practice IO-Link offers the possibility of not only of reading measurement values but also configuring the sensors remotely. This allows user to modify the sensor settings depending on the objects to be detected via the network.

The HG-C series

The HG-C measurement sensors offer high precision with a resolution of 10µm and a response time of no more than 1.5ms. The sensor can be configured either with the function keys on the device or via IO-Link. Depending on the sensor model, the measurement values are output via the analog output or via IO-Link. As standard

the measured distance is displayed on the device in millimeters with a built-in four-digit display. The measurement sensor can be triggered via digital inputs or via IO-Link depending on the model.

The five models of the HG-C series offer sensing ranges from 30 ±5mm to 400 ±200mm. All models are equipped with a red semiconductor laser of class 2 in an aluminum die-cast housing, offer IP67 degree of protection and have a temperature drift of only 0.03% F.S./°C. Thanks to the compact (44mm x 25mm x 20mm) and light weight body (35g) the HG-C distance sensor can easily be mounted on the moving parts of machines allowing the sensor to be used for dynamic measurements of material thickness and diameters or to determine the profiles and contours of different components. In addition, the sensor also works well in special applications, e.g. measurement during manufacturing processes such as tire production (black rubber) or metal surfaces of various colors as commonly found in the automotive industry.

Areas of application

The HG-C series opens up many new possibilities for industrial automation for example the sensor is ideally suited for positioning robot arms, checking for the presence of very small objects or the overlapping of even the thinnest types of material. Measuring can take place both stationary and dynamically and tanks to dynamic measurement, users can determine profiles and contours of many different components. You can find more information about the HG-C laser distance sensor on our home page and in our movie.

How to become a Product Tester

All European companies or professionals working within the field of industrial automation can apply to become a product tester. I/O Link based applications from engineers with an adequate technical background or companies with an immediate application which allows them to test the product in the field are highly welcome.

At the end of the testing phase the product testers will be asked to complete a questionnaire to document and summarize their results and experiences with the sensor. The feedback will be analysed by Panasonic engineers and the resulting ideas, requests and experiences will be integrated into Panasonic’s future sensor development program.
