Craven Fawcett, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of clay preparation machinery and part of Group Rhodes, is working in close collaboration with SABO Brick & Tile, based in Greece, to provide a solution for Craven Fawcett’s customer Northcot Brick, one of the country’s longest established brick manufacturers.

Craven Fawcett is the UK distributor of SABO’s manufacturing equipment and introduced Northcot Brick to SABO to design and manufacture a bespoke gripper head for a standard robotic assembly which would be used to pick and place bricks.

Northcot Brick had been using a robot to perform this function for 20 years, but required a replacement robot as spare parts were no longer available and after sales service was not offered any more on this equipment.  The new robotic brick gripper head will incorporate programmable servo drives for brick spacing, making the process much quicker and more efficient.  Once the equipment is commissioned, Craven Fawcett will provide any future UK based after sales services and support to the customer.

Kevin Hall, Engineer at Craven Fawcett, said: “We have worked with Northcot Brick for many years and this new contract is the result of a great working partnership between ourselves and SABO.  Northcot Brick will benefit from a cutting-edge robotic solution which will enhance its productivity, plus the technical expertise and back up of our after sales service.”

Craven Fawcett has supplied extruders and other machinery to the brick and clay pipe manufacturing industry for over 175 years and is at the forefront of technology in the field of extruded pelletisation.

The company manufactures a range of special equipment including Box Feeders, Grinding Mills, Mixers & Extruders sold globally for the heavy clay and ceramics industry, as well as the mining and quarrying industries.

Northcot Brick, based in Gloucestershire in the UK, has been a Craven Fawcett customer for over 60 years, with the company supplying new equipment, as well as spare parts for Craven Fawcett machines, including roller mills, cutters and extruders and bespoke spare parts for non-Craven Fawcett machines.

Alongside high quality Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) products and services, Craven Fawcett offers guidance on material selection, component finish and supply of spare parts, in order to optimise production efficiency and reduce the frequency of machinery repair. This is backed by a team of highly trained and experienced service engineers dedicated to clay preparation machinery, who repair and maintain Craven Fawcett equipment at customers’ sites.
