A keen apprentice employer will be exhibiting at this year’s Scarborough Engineering Week. The event is aimed at young people aged from 4-19 years, and will showcase some of the most prominent local and regional business’ who rely on engineering to be successful.

Empowering young people to take control of their future in an ever changing world is essential for successful futures, especially as they progress to careers which do not yet exist, use technology not yet invented and solve problems we do not even yet know are problems. This is at the heart of Scarborough Engineering Week.

Keen to promote careers available in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths and show just how exciting technology can be, the local experts and business leaders from our region will be bringing along some of the latest technology being used in business today, including robots, virtual reality kits, 3D technology etc giving visitors the chance to have “hands on” experience. Local and regional schools have registered their learners to the event and currently we have over 2,000 registered. Don’t miss out! If your school or college isn’t taking part then why not come along to the open evening.

As an award winning Top 100 UK Apprenticeship employer and National Apprenticeship Service Roll of Honour Company Dale Power Solutions are committed to providing rewarding and exciting careers with a stimulating Advanced and Higher Apprenticeship program. This program promotes learning in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects and develops apprentices from GCSE level through Foundation Degree and onto Honours Degree in electrical and mechanical engineering whilst providing essential hands on learning in the variety of disciplines and market sectors we operate in. We are passionate about apprenticeships and what they bring to our organisation; and feel that it’s our responsibility to the local community; to play an active role in engaging with you people to get them passionate about STEM and the exciting path apprenticeships and STEM subjects can lead to.

Now in its 5th year Scarborough Engineering Week continues to evolve as a very successful event. Scarborough Building on the success of 2013, the event plans to grow to make this year bigger and better. There are already over 2,000 people signed up to attend, helping to ensure that this year’s event will be even bigger and better than the last four years.

Changing perceptions of the engineering industry with young people is at the heart of the event and feedback that NYBEP received after the event in 2012 clearly shows how this has achieved its goal, with one person commenting, “I feel that I have learned more about Science and engineering today than in any of my lessons”. And another stated, “I thought engineering was dirty and underpaid before attending this event, now I know it’s a lot CLEANER and there are well paid opportunities”.

Another focus of the event is to get children more interested and engaged in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) in their lives and are aware of the exciting career opportunities to which the STEM subjects can lead to. As well as engaging with the students, it is important to engage with the schools and teachers, so that they too can understand the range of STEM opportunities available to them and the great benefits they can bring to everyone.
