Remarkable long-distance sensors suited to wet areas
It’s not every day that ground-breaking new photoelectric sensors appear on the market, but sensor market leader ifm electronic has launched two more at once.
New OID sensors from ifm electronic are offered in a standard M30 housing, but not much else about them is conventional. For one they detect small objects up to two metres distant, regardless of colour or detection angle, even against a shiny background, yet they don’t need a reflector. This remarkable performance is attained by using ifm’s own PMD time-of-flight technology; using this technology the sensor can provide reliable sensing at long distances at a cost comparable to a standard reflective sensor, without the cost of installing a reflector; in turn this leads to new opportunities for sensor position, e.g. above a conveyor out of the operator’s way.
The stainless steel housing and IP69K rating means the OID can be used in food production areas. The addition of IO-Link allows the user to set not only the switch point but also time delays. As well as bringing all the other benefits of IO-Link, this leads to fewer openings in the housing, so the IP69K rating is guaranteed.
The OID sensors employ safe laser light for detection, which is offered as a Class 1 or Class 2.
ifm is committed to working closely with its customers to develop products which precisely match their needs, and the company provides expert, readily accessible technical support to help users maximise the benefits they gain from ifm products.
