With a wireless HMI, machines can be comfortably operated and without restrictions, exactly where it is needed. Wouldn’t it be practical however, to manage an entire system beyond machine boundaries with a wireless handheld device? There is now a comfortable, and above all, safe solution from Sigmatek exactly for this purpose.

The TÜV-certified, wireless operating solution with safety-to-go from SIGMATEK consists of three main components: a wireless panel from the HGW 1033 series with safety elements (SIL 3/PL e), the base station BWH 001 as the access point and charging station and an S-DIAS safety control. To increase the quality of the wireless transmission in the immediate machine environment, a redundant transmission process is implemented. Safety and payload data are simultaneously transmitted over two WLAN frequencies 2.4 and 5 GHz. Analogous to wired solutions, safety-relevant data is sent via the black channel principle.

SIGMATEK’s innovative “Wireless Roaming Feature” enables almost unlimited range using the HGW 1033 wireless HMI with Safety functions

When multiple base stations and HMIs are used for complex, very large-scale machines and systems, the “Wireless Roaming Feature” provides reliable and nearly unlimited coverage. The HGW panel is directly coupled with the selected machine and safety control. The base station serves as the communications bridge between the wireless and cable-connected networks. Roaming means that an active connection exists over at least one of the two frequencies at all times.

Guided by the menu, the operator connects the SIGMATEK wireless panel with the desired system component and the corresponding safety zone. The BWH 001 base station acts as a bridge between LAN and WLAN – this makes wireless operation and monitoring of extensive machines and systems possible with the help of “Wireless Roaming”.

By combining the interfaces of the base stations used, all network participants (HGW, machine/safety control) are connected to one another over a single subnetwork. To operate the network at a high performance with low latency, a VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) can be used in an existing network infrastructure. This ensures that the performance of the wireless operating solution is not affected by the data flow from higher-level company networks.

For the user, the “Wireless Roaming Feature” provides more operating comfort, functionality and system availability. In the HGW visualization, all available machines are displayed. The operator wirelessly connects to the desired machine or system sector via the panel. While the user moves along the system, the panel scans for the best network based on the current RSSI signal strength. Switching networks can be triggered by a user action or automatically.

For integrating the wireless operating solution into the control system or for data exchange with existing third-party systems, the integrated OPC UA interface is used.

Flexible Safety System

Programmable, flexible safety is a key component of intelligent machine design. With S-DIAS Safety from SIGMATEK, the user has a slim economic solution that meets the highest safety standards (SIL 3, PL e). The SCP 211 Safety CPU provides fast processing speed and extensive memory. It has four times the processing speed of its little sister, the SCP 111, as well as more memory for user programs (1 MB Flash, 500 kB SRAM) and remnant memory for parameter lists and variables. The 25 mm wide DIN rail module provides a total current of 1.6 A to power the S-DIAS Safety modules and is therewith, the right choice for diverse safety applications. New functions such as creating arrays, marker variables, constants in list forms and reloadable parameter lists simplify creating and handling safety applications.

The Safety CPU SCP 211 from SIGMATEK convinces with a fast processing speed and extensive memory

The LASAL SAFETY Designer’s graphical editor makes developing safety-relevant applications easy and comfortable. In the library, more than 50 Safety function blocks based on PLCopen are available such as Emergency Stop, Two Hand Control and Guard Locking. For the SCP 211, new Safety function blocks for interpolation, conversion of data units and array processing have been added. The Safety program is created with all optional modules only once and can then be configured as desired. This means that there is one Safety program for all expansion stages of a machine.

The hardware of the modular, TÜV-certified S-DIAS Safety System always consists of a Safety CPU, which monitors or controls the application and safe I/O modules. Here, there are safe digital in- and outputs, analog inputs, relay outputs, as well as SSI absolute encoder inputs that can be flexibly combined. S-DIAS Safety is seamlessly integrated into the S-DIAS control system from SIGMATEK, but can also be implemented as a stand-alone solution.
