The Latest GigE Vision and Machine Vision Technologies on Show At Photonex

Most if not all industrial camera manufacturers have GigE Vision interfaces in their camera product range. Usually just a derivation of the camera, that is in many cases also available with USB or Firewire, as legacy devices.

The Imaging Source (TIS) have a reputation for good software and drivers. This has been reinforced with their latest range of Power over Ethernet cameras that are not based on previous legacy models and which now extends to 10 models (5 colour and 5 monochrome). They are small and light and can be powered directly over a 100 metre cable from the computer or a powered switch.

Installing a TIS GigE camera is simple, connect it. Run the GigE config software. Then run Image Capture, the viewing software.

Scorpion Vision Ltd will be demonstrating this new range of cameras at Photonex (Stand C03), taking place on the 17th and 18th October at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.

Taking pride of place at the Photonex exhibition will be a new series of software packages bundled with cameras. These are defined as a new product genre. The Scorpion Vision Apps are a hardware/software bundle that is designed to solve straightforward machine vision tasks with minimum configuration and set-up. For example, based around the Sony Smart Cameras, the Object Locate App is an easy way to automatically identify and generate 2D position information in X and Y coordinates. It’s effectively a solution ‘out of the box’ that can be applied in many scenarios.

Robot guidance is one typical application area that benefits from this kind of technology, as it allows robot engineers to add machine vision to their systems without having to involve a machine vision engineer.  Training the Vision App is straightforward and can be done in minutes. There is no other development required because the camera is shipped with software already installed and ready to go – out of the box!
