Exceptionally easy to set up, outstanding stability and support for the EtherCAT high-speed industrial fieldbus system are among the key features of the new generation E3X-HD fibre-optic amplifiers from Omron, the world’s leading manufacturer of fibre-optic sensor solutions.

The new amplifiers allow the implementation of fibre-optic sensing systems that offer high levels of performance and convenience in a wide range of industrial applications, including harsh environments or where space for installation is limited.

Utilising the new Smart Tuning system, light emission and threshold levels are set in a single step, simply by pressing a button once with a target present and again with no target present. Eliminating the need for entering complex menu settings, as found with conventional amplifiers that require two separate settings to optimise configuration, detection on even the most demanding applications such as transparent media or shiny, glossy or matt surfaces is achieved with the minimum of effort.

Ensuring the highest possible reliability and stability throughout their long working lives, E3X-HD amplifiers incorporate the latest GIGA RAY II LED light source technology. GIGA RAY II light sources offer 1.5 times the efficiency of conventional LED light sources, providing even longer sensing distances and greater stability.

To combat the effects of dust, mechanical vibration or other contamination, the new Dynamic Power Control (DPC) function automatically compensates for reduction in light levels in the sensor system. This means that the sensor always operates at its optimum power setting without the need for manual adjustment or maintenance. This function enables the sensor to operate even in harsh environmental conditions without the need for constant re-setting.

Easy integration of Omron E3X-HD amplifiers with the latest automation systems is assured by their support for EtherCAT fieldbus networks, a high-speed Ethernet-based real-time fieldbus system that is growing rapidly in popularity. All sensor functions are supported over the EtherCat connection, allowing all settings and measurements to be easily transposed between the control system and sensor. This additional functionality allows fibre sensors to be utilised for complex applications, which were previously inconceivable.
