EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation, has secured global technology powerhouse Siemens as a sponsor for its annual UK manufacturing ‘Oscars’. Siemens will be sponsoring this year’s Smart Product Award, one of eight ‘gongs’ handed out to manufacturers at the EEF/Aldermore Future Manufacturing Awards.

The Smart Product Award goes to the UK manufacturer judged to have most successfully designed and delivered a new product to market that has also driven innovation in manufacturing. The product could be an intelligent, efficiency or decision-making device which Siemens, with its track record of producing energy-efficient, resource-saving technologies, is ideally placed to judge.

The move marks the first time that Siemens has sponsored the awards, but it will be in good company, joining other industry heavyweights such as Aldermore, and partners such as UKTI, the Institute for Manufacturing and the International Festival for Business.

In total, there are eight different awards, allowing best-in-class manufacturers to showcase their achievements in a range of key areas. These include strategic growth, exporting, investment in skills and training, reducing environmental impact, health and safety, operational excellence and developing partnerships with education. There are also awards for outstanding apprentices.

Terry Scuoler, CEO of EEF, said:  “Despite being dynamic, versatile and innovative, our sector is full of unsung heroes who do not get the recognition they deserve. These awards are about shining a light on their achievements and celebrating success – we are proud to have Siemens on board.”

Brian Holliday, managing director of Siemens, said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring the Smart Product Award for the first time this year. This is a particularly exciting category celebrating manufacturers’ ingenuity, expertise and success and we look forward to seeing high-quality entries from across the UK that represent Britain’s best in pioneering products.”

Entries to the awards should be made before the 31st July, 2015. To enter or to find out more visit: http://www.eef.org.uk/awards.
