LMS International has released Virtual.Lab Rev 11, a substantial new version of its solution for 3D functional performance engineering
LMS Virtual.Lab is a multi-attribute engineering platform, combining high accuracy with superior speed, and a highly efficient process for structural integrity, multi-body dynamics, noise and vibration and durability. LMS Virtual.Lab integrates a scalable solution for structural modelling and analysis, with advanced model creation and manipulation tools to efficiently generate component, subsystem and full-system models, always innovative for enhancing the user’s experience.
For multi-body simulation, Rev 11 offers extended customisation capabilities for template-driven simulation, a driving dynamics application and the seamless integration of mechatronic sub-systems.
The main new acoustics features are the first class vibro-acoustic solvers, the high performance aero-acoustic extensions and the possibilities for full frequency range analyses in cabins and rooms through Ray-Tracing technologies. With regard to durability, Rev 11 is said to allow the simulation of seam welds more accurately and efficiently.
Rev 11 offers many customer driven enhancements in Virtual.Lab Structures in the areas of generic assembly and solver pre/post processing with, amongst others, a focus on handling large crash models.
Customer driven innovation
Stefaan Goossens, vice-president simulation at LMS International comments: “LMS Virtual.Lab Rev 11 introduces a breadth of innovative capabilities for various applications across industry segments. While developing Rev 11, driven by customer requirements and market trends, focus was given to extending the products capability, addressing new market needs, and improving our customers’ engineering processes. As such, Rev 11 brings tangible benefits through important development cost and time savings and ultimately supports our customers’ transition towards design-right first-time.”
Template-driven simulation
LMS Virtual.Lab Motion embeds the new LMS Virtual.Lab Composer
supporting drag-and-drop GUI
creation, for easy customisation of industry specific applications and streamlining the multi-body dynamics simulation process.
Built on the LMS Virtual.Lab Composer framework, the Driving Dynamics GUI provides a dedicated interface for all vehicle dynamics analysis. The application, incorporating fully parameterised subsystem templates, helps users optimise vehicle systems for increased driving dynamics performance.
Today’s product designs increasingly rely on integrated multi-physics subsystems. LMS Virtual.Lab Rev 11 provides state-of-the-art co-simulation interfaces to LMS Imagine.Lab AMESim (for hydraulic, pneumatic or electric subsystem modelling) and Simulink (for controllers).
Vibro-acoustic solvers and more
In the area of noise and vibration, Rev 11 integrates a comprehensive and leading structural FEM solver (coming from the recent SAMTECH acquisition) for fully coupled vibro-acoustic analyses. Whenever one is dealing with vibro-acoustic simulations with damping, light structures such as composites, or plastics, or complex laminates, Rev 11 will do the job completely, efficiently and accurately.
The aero-acoustics capabilities for flow-induced noise applications have been dramatically enhanced, resulting in greater efficiency and providing higher fidelity in conjunction with the premier and ultra-fast acoustic FEM solvers enriched with the AML technology.
In addition, supporting high frequency acoustics, the Ray-Acoustics solver extends into the ATV technology. Running acoustic simulations up to the audible frequency range can be done more accurately and simply than ever before, an example being sound system design in vehicles.
Reliable seam weld connections
LMS Virtual.Lab Durability supports more accurate and faster simulation of seam welds through new technologies allowing the inclusion of size effects for seam welds and automatic identification of all typical seam weld topologies in an FE-mesh. It eliminates the need for engineers to tediously model each seam weld connection manually and it offers significant speedups for large welded assemblies.
