First Sensor offers a new series of innovative silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) that are designed to detect ultra-low light levels down to single photons. These detectors are optimised for near-ultraviolet or visible light detection. Key features include a low operating voltage, high gain, excellent temperature stability, and immunity to magnetic fields. Enhanced materials and semiconductor technology enable low-noise SiPMs with reduced dark count rate, crosstalk and very low after pulsing probability.

Typical applications of silicon photomultipliers from First Sensor include medical diagnostics, nuclear medicine  and analytical instruments. Due to the immunity to external magnetic fields, SiPM detctors are ideal for medical imaging applications such as combined tomography systems using magnetic resonance tomography (MRT) and positron emission tomography (PET) or single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT).
