Vacuum pump, blower and vacuum systems manufacturer Busch GVT is seeking two apprentices to join the firm’s new scheme which is set to commence in September 2013.
Busch is partnering with EEF the manufacturing organisation which is opening a new Apprentice & Skills Training Centre in Aston, Birmingham – and is recruiting two candidates to embark on a three year programme where they will learn about all aspects of engineering and manufacturing. This will include day-to-day practical, hands on learning at Busch with theory and further technical instruction of machining and fitting at the training school. The ultimate goal for the two apprentices is to achieve a Level 3 City & Guilds Certificate and there will also be the opportunity to further develop their education and skills by studying for an HNC/HND.
Rachel Manley, HR manager for Busch GVT, said, “We believe this is a fantastic opportunity for two people who are interested in a career in engineering. This scheme will provide them with an excellent platform from which to gain the knowledge, experience and qualifications they need to build a future for themselves in manufacturing.
“We’re looking for candidates with a genuine interest in engineering with a good understanding of the importance of providing world class quality products and services for customers. They will need to have a minimum of five GCSEs at grade C or above in maths and English, and science, design and technology would also be advantageous.”
Those interested in applying should go to www.apprenticeships.org.uk by 14 July 2013. An initial selection process will then take place and applicants meeting the criteria will first be invited to the EEF for a skills assessment. From there successful candidates will be invited to a Busch recruitment day where they will take part in group exercises, interviews, learn more about the Busch organisation and meet the team.
Rachel Manley continued, “This is the first time Busch has entered into an advanced apprentice scheme, however we have run similar programmes in the past and have a number of former apprentices working across our business as team leaders, field service engineers and top sales managers.”
Peter Somers, general manager of Busch GVT Limited, added, “The development of young talent is something we strongly believe in at Busch and we are keen to find two high calibre candidates who will grasp this opportunity and maximise their potential.
“The current economic climate is proving to be particularly challenging for young people who may be planning their careers. With the cost of obtaining a degree
seeming to be ever on the increase, apprenticeships are being viewed by many as a better alternative to the university route as they can gain skills, knowledge and worthwhile qualifications while being in a real working environment.
“Many of our former apprentices have gone on to achieve success in a wide range of roles within our organisation, so the sky’s the limit for the right candidates to really make their mark at Busch.”
Earlier this year, the company undertook an initiative to promote careers in manufacturing and engineering by working with students from the West Midlands and North West on the ‘Busch Make It Engineering Challenge’.
The event was a collaboration between Busch and The Manufacturing Institute as part of a series of themed challenges delivered by the Institute’s ‘Make It’ campaign, which aims to promote manufacturing as an exciting and rewarding career option for young people.
