The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has outlined a new health and safety system strategy with the aim of helping Great Britain work well.

The recent strategy issued by HSE outlines six new priority themes with the aim of helping Great Britain to work well. The Government aspires to ensure that everyone in the workforce plays their part by making health at work solutions simple. The initiative complements the objectives of the Better Health at Work Alliance (BHWA): the first organisation to offer a one-stop-shop for workplace health which launched last month with the support of key expert organisations.

The BHWA is the British workplace health industry’s first broadly inclusive membership body, led by Director Charlotte Cross. Offering access to solutions, information, and guidance via a simple one-stop website, users will be able to tap into expert knowledge through free resources including an ‘Ask the Expert’ forum, collaborative wikis, and guides, all of which will be subject to peer review.

Charlotte said of the strategy: “It is fantastic to see HSE proactively engaging with the UK to improve workplace health. The strategy aims to reduce the complexity of workplace health, which is exactly what the BHWA does. Ill health in the workforce costs the nation £9 billion annually and can cost any employer dearly by impacting productivity, so it’s essential that we make it easy for any organisation to find ways to improve workplace health. It will be really exciting to see this strategy gain momentum – long may it continue.”

Through the BHWA, workplace health experts collaborate to provide an inclusive and straightforward platform offering free guidance to employers;  with its knowledge and insight taking in all specialisms, it will nurture the growing multi-disciplinary approach to service provision. BHWA brings together a wide range of leading workplace health specialists and already has the endorsement of over 30 key industry organisations, including Medigold Health, the UK’s second largest independent occupational health and wellbeing consultancy.
