Plymouth based Applied Automation (UK) Ltd has been trading for nearly 40 years.

Running alongside their successful machine building business they have established a number of specialist trading divisions including Marine, Build to Print, and Technical Distribution. In addition, they also own three subsidiaries, PTG Precision Engineers, PTG Workholding, and Applied Tube Technology.

Applied Automation’s Technical Distribution Division is located in Cardiff and offers its customers high levels of technical support along with an expanding range of product solutions, from some of the world’s leading companies.

This Division has experts from X-STK (industrial component sales), Robotics (robot and associated sales) and Industrial Systems (aluminium profile structure sales) working together as a single entity.

Unlike the others, the Industrial Systems design, manufacturing and build team (if required) are based at Applied’s manufacturing facility in Plymouth, and create frameworks, structures and systems for machine build, lean manufacturing and materials handling projects using a robust aluminium profile system developed in Germany by Maytec. This is only available in the UK from Applied. The Maytec system is extremely strong, load bearing, functional and aesthetically pleasing whether used in simple or extremely complex designs.

Applied Automation Industrial Systems in brief

Applied Industrial Systems are constantly being asked by numerous industry sectors to come up with solutions for a wide range of applications.

One day it could be a request for some customised work benches for a leading pharmaceutical company, the next a one-off request for a large, moveable platform system for an aerospace company and the following day a special pedestal for a robot from our robotics team.

From a one-off request to a regular order all customers are equally important and treated in the same way.

Over the last few weeks, Industrial Systems have been flat out fulfilling a major order for a leading company which included numerous customised work benches and a huge customised cabinet. From design to construction every stage is monitored, registered with regular updates including photos, which are sent through to the customer. And, once completed, the Industrial Systems team makes sure their hard work won’t get damaged in transit by spending many hours creating the perfect packaging to prevent any accidents. Obviously, with items being in all shapes and sizes this can be quite a challenge but the team approach this task with pride and as part of the job.

Industrial Systems meets a Robotics Challenge

Applied’s robotics experts recently challenged their Industrial Systems colleagues to design a custom UR10e Pedestal trolley to support a Universal Robot (Cobot) sale.
Using MayTec’s aluminium extrusions they quickly modelled a concept for approval based on the customer height requirements of 800mm.
From enquiry to drawing, approval and quote, the order was agreed and was schedule for its production in less that 8 hours.
