Sanjeev Gupta, the Executive Chairman of Liberty House Group is to unveil his vision for a successful future for the British Steel Industry at The Manufacturer Annual Leaders Conference (TMALC) on 2nd November.

Liberty House Group is a fast-growing $7 billion global industrial enterprise spanning metals, steel production and advanced engineering solutions, supported by sustainable energy and financial products provided by Liberty’s sister company Simec.

The UK steel industry has faced substantial global price pressures due to weak demand and over-capacity and has been perceived as a dying industry. Sanjeev Gupta, through a strategy that defied these perceptions, acquired and restarted number of steel and engineering businesses, saving over 2,000 jobs. Sanjeev will talk about the challenges faced by the UK steel industry giving his view on the opportunities and risks of Brexit.

Sanjeev Gupta will also share his views on plans to rejuvenate British manufacturing by creating a competitive and sustainable sector based on his GREENSTEEL strategy.

Mr Gupta said “Government support in removing carbon tax on power stations feeding steel plants, their backing for conversion of coal-fired stations to biomass and the green light for tidal lagoon power would give the steel industry and manufacturing a huge boost and a bright future.”

The ‘Greensteel’ strategy aims to provide energy intensive industrial sites with continued access to low-cost, clean power supply during times of peak demand or periods when solar and wind power are not delivering.

Sanjeev Gupta will deliver an insight into the challenges faced by the industry at the session entitled ‘The Future of the UK Steel Industry’ at TMALC on November 2, Hall 2, NEC, Birmingham. The conference will take place from 2 – 3 November and will be co-located next to The Manufacturer Smart Factory Expoand the Advanced Engineering Show that will showcase the very latest technologies available to UK manufacturing.

One of the main themes of TMALC will be the UK’s response to Industry 4.0 and the sole focus of TM Smart Factory Expo will be to showcase the latest in Industry 4.0 or the fourth industrial revolution. TMALC and TM Smart Factory Expo form part of the TM Live series of four events which also include The Manufacturer Top 100 and The Manufacturer MX Awards.
